Easy

CAT scans are easy.
Paper sheet. Large empty room;
Donut of mysterious materials,
the size of a full moon.

Stillness is all that
is needed. And calm.
David Copperfield doesn't
elevate with such elegance,

Your head moved backward as the
images are captured; forward
and then back again. "You will
go in and out twice," Jennifer says.

CAT scans are easy. Not like
skinning the cat, palms
tender on the metal bars,
the bulk of your weight

suspended, slipped through,
gravity taking purchase,
recapturing ground in the cone
of possible collisions.

Oh, Mary, you remind me why writing is my favorite thing tho I've lost some of the joy in it due to all this revising and now reading your wonderful posts in September I rejoice in our friendship and the fact that we write and that I can click click click and read you when I need inspiration. Love the picture of you and Dylan. Beamish lad and mom. I love you, Mary. Susan
