What We Don't Want to Know

Sometimes we don't want
to know what we want to know.
Shivering in our bones,
the splinters piercing,
blood weeping from our flesh.

We know and we do not know.
And in the dark, the whispers
grow loud, sinister and
insistent.

Mumbling, we shelter
the incoherent moment,
fuzzy memory, hinging
on the eight ball.
